Brazil’s antitrust watchdog CADE has begun investigating a criticism by e-commerce retailer MercadoLibre Inc towards Apple Inc for alleged abuse of a monopoly within the distribution of apps for its units, the regulator stated on Wednesday.
The choice to open the investigation into alleged anti-competitive practices by Apple was taken final week based mostly on the criticism filed in December by MercadoLibre, CADE stated in an announcement.
“Comparable investigations are being carried out by antitrust authorities in different jurisdictions,” the watchdog stated.
MercadoLibre argued that Apple had imposed a sequence of restrictions on the distribution of digital items and in-app purchases.
